Their Friends Laughed When They Found Out What They Were Doing...

The Story of Two Separate Families Documenting Their Lives With Photographs... (In fact, one of these families could easily be yours)...

The two families lived what most would call a "normal" life, and on occasion took photographs and video to capture special moments. Over time, both families accumulated a lot of negatives, printed photographs and video tape.

But there was a simple difference between the families.

One family backed their images up regularly. The other didn't.

The family backing up images was doing so by making duplicate copies and storing them in air-tight containers kept away from sunlight. Their friends laughed when they learnt what they were doing. After all, it was a little "over the top" in those days - Hey - It would be over the top TODAY as well!

They both kept living normal lives. The kids gained and lost teeth, grazed their knees, went to school, and grew up playing sport and doing the usual "teenage" things.

Of course, certain times required the family to stand together and say "cheese".

One of these occasions was the wedding of their eldest. Another was the birth of the first grand-child. Then the video of the first steps of the new grandchildren. Whenever the occasion was right, out came the camera.

The photographs produced were printed, and if good enough were placed in a special "acid free" photographic album. If not, they were kept anyway, and placed in a photo "grave" (inside a box), to be looked at once every 10 years.

The video was converted to VHS and viewed twice. After all, It was only professionals who had the ability to edit out all the expensive footage taken of the ground when the cam corder was accidently left recording!

But one day, something changed. Both families bought a digital camera.

Brilliant, they both thought. Now we don't need to buy film. But they did need a good computer. So they upgraded their computer as well. Instead of storing images in albums they were told they would now be on their hard drive!

So, after an investment in the camera (ouch), the extra memory card(s) and the carrying case, they kept happily taking photographs and were now starting to email the odd picture to people who had what was quite new then... known an "email address".

A one "megapixel" image was great quality then. Of course they had learnt these new words from the detailed manual that come with the camera. The technology was great in 2001 - we're only talking 6 or so years ago.

But the emailed images took so long to download that you had time to go and put the washing on, and make a cup of tea before sitting down to view all 2 images.

Still, there was one simple difference between the families.

The family who backed up images before, kept on doing it.

The differences in the two families was not a difference of ability but a difference in decision. One family recognised the fact that their Images and video needed backing up. They compiled them in date order on CD's and duplicated that on DVD's.

The other merely kept taking photographs.

Six years passed and now these families had more photographs with that one digital camera than they had taken in the previous 30 years combined. Some were brilliant shots that required printing. Some were edited and some deleted.

When will it end? The younger generation were now sending them images of themselves by mobile phone! Unimaginable just a few years back. It seemed only a few years ago when we all gathered around a projector to view a slide show of a friends overseas trip.

Each family kept taking, emailing, and storing images on their hard drives.

Then the unthinkable happened.

During a storm, an electrical spike went through the phone line, and fried both families' computer hard drives in a split second. But they didn't know it. Well, not until they tried to turn on their computers the day after the storm.

After unsuccessfully trying to start their computers, they thought - "Lucky we've got insurance!", and without thinking about it, took the hard drives to the local repair centre - where after one look, the technician replied - "I hope you made a backup of all of your data on here - photos and all..."

One family was happy and smiled, knowing that they'd made backups for years. They thought they'd lost nothing. The other family was devastated in losing thousands of irreplaceable photographs and digital video. To commiserate they both went and looked at old printed photos and noticed just how much they had faded over the years.

The "happy" family had a second computer and inserted a CD back up to view some images of 2002. However, there was NOTHING viewable! They couldn't believe it! They didn't realize that CD's only have a shelf life of between 3 and 7 years. All that planning was wasted.

But they did have one thing that the other family didn't.

They had the only insurance you cannot buy from ANY insurance company.

The story of these two families is repeated thousands of times around the world every single day. Same story, different families.

Obviously, there is a business opportunity here. Find out more.
